The 2024 World Tunnel Congress with the theme “Tunnels Enriching Life” opened today in Shenzhen. This edition of the World Tunnel Congress has set new records in terms of exhibition scale and participant numbers. It’s also the first time in 34 years for the World Tunnel Congress to be held in China. 

Currently, China has constructed 8,543 kilometers of subways, 5,100 kilometers of underground comprehensive pipe corridors, and over 50,000 kilometers of railway and highway tunnels, making it the country with the most tunnels, the largest construction scale, and the fastest development speed in the world today. 

The exhibition area of this congress covers 20,000 square meters, marking the largest scale in its history. More than 3,000 experts, scholars, and business representatives from member countries of the international tunnel and underground space associations such as the UK, Germany, the United States, and Canada are participating. During the congress, there will also be 40 specialized technical conferences and nearly 200 academic presentations.
